Prou, Sybille. Adz, King. Blek Le Rat,(2008).  Blek le Rat: getting through the walls. London: Thames & Hudson

In this book Sybille Prou and King Adz talks about Blek Le Rat work and how the came about and his ideas around them.

Blek Le Rat works in different kind of ways as in showing things through his stencil and paste up work. One of his work that the author acknowledge in this book is “The Man Who Walks Through Walls” this work is the most popular one that is out there from Blek work the author quotes “ It is Certainly Blek’s most travelled character; like Blek himself.”  This quote explains that this stencil is one of Blek favourite. “this Man Who Walks Through Walls has journeyed across the world to share urban art and stencils with people everywhere.”  This quote from the author gets me thinking about how this stencil of this man in a way that its alive. The fact that is travelling around the world and the name that it’s given give the stencil a lot of character.

In this article, Robyn is being interview on her work the "Haehae mo nga pepi Kahui" by Damian Skinner. Robyn talks about her work as something for her to show her point of view in a unique way.

I think its interesting how Robyn compares advertisement to art. She quotes " Like advertising, art has a rich history of being a way to reach people and change their minds." I think this is interesting because it is true, but the only differences is that on art work the viewers will have the freedom to analyse their own story on the art work but a advertisement it will already have a point or statement. It doesn't really give us much freedom to add our own specific meaning.

Robyn quotes "while art can be something to look at peacefully, it can also be something designed to stir up the motion and create action." I totally agree with this quote of hers art will always tell a story, but that story is up to the viewer. For example one painting will mean something different to each viewer and that what she's trying to show through her work the Haehae mo nga pepi Kahui . Robyn strongly believes that art work will always be more effective with meaning she quotes " What ever specific meaning you get from the image this works shows why art with a message can be so powerful.

Banksy (2005) Wall and piece / Banksy. London: Century.

This books is was written by Banksy, one of the most known street artist out there. He mostly talks about his work and how they came about. He also talks about his experiences  as a street/graffiti artist. It is also one  the most interesting books I've read so far on this topic street/graffiti art because Banksy really opens his opinion and hes really straight forward on how his work is influencing the viewers.

"I'm going to speak my mind, so this won't take very long."  In this quotes Banksy goes straight to in to it, he certainly speaking his mind, You could tell by the way he writs, because he haven't came up with any formal description on what hes going to talk about abut going straight to the point. He quotes "A wall has always been the best place to publish your work." He goes straight to what he believes which is the street walls are his canvas , I think that the way he write is similar to the way he creates his work. He speaks his mind. In most of Banksy work he shows his point of view on politicians, anti war , freedom and peace, and they are really effective it draws a lot of attention because they are his pure thoughts, and its something you hardly see in most artist work because they are all about perfection and not really about their statement that they want to express in their work.

Banksy talks about how different people view his work or graffiti/street art. He quotes " The people who run our cities don't understand graffiti because they think nothing has the right to exist unless it makes a profit." I agree on Banksy point of view. The governments now days only care about money, and we all know that the main source of evil on earth comes from money, and if a government focus is only on money that country will go through a lot of struggle. I think when Banksy talks about making profit, I think hes talking about advertisement. There a lot of source of advertisement out there that we are not aware of. Most advertisement are mostly bragging people to spend money on meaning less things e.g. women fashion, and also spending money on thing that could harm us e.g fast food advertisement. Our government let business do this even if they over advertise, but when one men want to state a statement about peace and freedom they immediately send the police to take them down and shut them up. I think that this is really unfair but it has also made street artist like Banksy stronger and are out there more.

Ganz, Nicholas. (2006) Graffiti women: graffiti and street art from five continents. London: Thames & Hudson.

This book is a artist writing, Nicholas Ganz acknowledge Graffiti women the rise of female graffiti and street artists. She acknowledge female artist who are on top of their game, such as Lady Pink and Austerdans Micky to many rising street artists. Quotes of artist from them selves are added to their readings. Graffiti can be influenced by anything any one.  This was the side of graffiti that this book opened my eye too.

Microbs is one of the artist that Ganz Nicholas mention in this book a shes on of the artist I found intresting. Microbs work is influenced by microbial; she quotes “Understanding the richness of this awesome and mindblowing microbial world puts our lives into perspective and gives us new respect for others what you don’t want done to you…. Peace, love, share and evolve” Microbs talks about her understanding on microbial, I agree on her point of view on knowing the microbial world and how it can put lives in perspective. I think for us to know the importance of the little things that create what’s around us, because if we don’t, we would have on idea or knowledge on the simplest thing in life.

The book also shares what artist artist believes and why they love doing graffiti: Mofi one artist I also found interesting in their book talks about what she want people to see in her work and that she really gets into it, “I want to show the way I understand the world that surrounds me”. “I like understanding the world that surrounds me”. “I like a wave of letters and shapes that, in the end, lose their initial meaning but always stay in any mind like a sound that never leaves.” I think it is interesting how she finds her own state of mind in her work and I believe that every artist artist should always be connected to their work in he way Mofi does.

Annotation
This is an art writing by Ganz Nicholas is based on graffiti evolution. She talks about different graffiti form around, and she shares her thoughts on them. She elaborates on worldwide history of graffiti, the here and now, The Americas, Europe and the rest of the world.

I found her opinion really interesting on how graffiti came about, she quotes “ Graffiti has been around since the beginning of mankind, pictures, such as those at the Lascux caves in France, were mostly carved in to the caves walls with bone or stones”. I found this really interesting, because it makes me look at graffiti in a different was, I think of graffiti now as a form of art evolution.  I see it as it’s something that us humans develop and it’s where our creative thinking started. I also think its amusing because graffiti is something invented before we came up with the idea of having wheels.

She also quotes n the development of technique of graffiti art  “early man also anticipated the stencil and spray technique, blowing coloured powder through hallow bones around his hand to make silhouettes”.  I thought that this was cool, The fact that us humans have developed such ideas in the early ages amazed me, makes me wonder about the art world, us humans have always had cleaver and creative ideas the only different is the materials we used.

Murals

2013

This image is full of bright soft colors. Its in a town a couple of the community. It looks like is happening around the middle eastern country (Cairo, Egypt), its close to the road. The painting is in large scale it covers two walls opposite each other The murals doesn't have special details its just different slaps of colors.
Reminds me of a festival, with the colors. Looks like their getting ready for a big celebration a public holiday?. The different colors reminds me of the equal right badge that was is used to represent Gay, Bisexual, and  Lesbian rights. But I have read and did a bit of research on this mural and they are actually about the community of Cairo not being satisfied with their government choices and so they ended up with the ideas to paint their city with bright colors to state their statement. So which means that their murals are political street art.

I think that this is interesting because I would never think of these murals as political art until I actually did research on it. I think this is exactly what the artist is trying to do, which is to draw people attention with the bright and colorful murals, think its is based on something positive and fun when really the story behind the murals is the people of Cairo are suffering because of their own government. I think that these murals are more like a cray out of these people to their government and if their government is not listening, there's the whole world that these big colorful murals will attract.

Swoon

Nee Nee in Braddock2014

This painting is an 8 color silk screen print on hand made paper. In this image you can see, a building and it looks like a church. There's a women in the mid ground, she looks like she painting the church shes looks like a giant in the image. There also figures of people around the church. There's different patterns on the roof of the church and there's like a colorful beehive pattern behind the women. There's also pattern in the fore ground.

The church looks like is going through a renovation. It seems like the people in the painting went through something that effected their life's and their trying to rebuild. The lady face describes different emotion. She looks pissed off but also very calm. The place in the painting looks like is from a certain country, the way that the people are rebuilding the church is by had they are not using any machines or anything technical things, so it must be in a unfortunate country, a country with not much but with hard working people.

The fact that it shows that their rebuilding a church makes me think about their religion. These people must be really religious and are committed to it. It also make me think about the painting spiritually, I think they are also trying to rebuild their belief after all the trouble they've been through. I think this painting speaks in two different ways. One is that, it speaks about rebuilding physically as a person. Two I believe in a spiritual world, and I do believe in God and I have experienced a moment in my life that I fully questioned my belief and spiritually I collapsed , but I managed to rebuild which,  is something that this painting reminded me. Over all this painting is an encouragement for me and maybe to other people.

Jonathan Paul

Addicted At Birth

Mixed Media 2012

The piece is a sculptures there are 3 babies, each one is on its own I.V the first I.V says "PRADA" the second I.V says "TOM FORD" and 3rd on has the "GUCCI" label on it. the babies are lying in their little hospital beds.  The first baby bed sheet have the text Prada covering the whole sheet and its black and white. The second baby bed sheets also has Tom Ford text written all over it and the sheets colors are black and gray. The Third  has the label Gucci all over her sheets is colored pink and the text are in white. The back ground is just full on gray.

They are new born babies, They are still in hospital because their still in the hospital beds and their on I.Vs. It reminds me of babies, and how their pure and innocent.
The sculpture explores contemporary desire and things that the generation now are obsessed with, which is fame fashion and money. He conveys fame thorough the famous brands Prada, Tom Ford and Gucci these brands are well known by celebrities and other well known people. Fashion is also convey in the same way, these brads are also well known in fashion because their mostly evolve around fashion, and also money is also convey this way because their really high brands which apparently means high value which over all means a lot of money.

But the main issue that Jonathan is showing in his work is how we are influenced to such things. The figures of the babies represents how innocent and unconscious we are and not realizing how much we are getting sucked in to point less things. The I.V's conveys the idea of drags, and we all know that drugs are additive and their irrelevant to our life's but people still take them because their addicted to it and wasting money by doing so.

Over all this peace talks about our corrupt society and that we don't see it. We are prematurely exposed to thing that will harm us and that will destroy us when the day comes, I see his work as a wake up call to socity and us individually to see what the problem is and try and control it.

Stop Telling Women To Smile

http://tlynnfaz.com/Stop-Telling-Women-to-Smile

A self portrait, in a large scale, Looks like its been sketched then printed in to a large scale. The also text in different font and size with a top and bottom border and a plain white background.
Its a image of an women she looks African American women, her eye contact is really strong, she deliver a really bold and a dominant women. The enlargement of the images create a very powerful figure.

Its like as an artist she want to see a powerful side of her self and she has use these techniques of enlarging her image and having it roughly sketch, with very strong eye contact, is a good way of conveying this idea of a dominant women.
The text also delivers a really strong message, Tatyana quotes " The portraits are designed into posters, including text that is inspired by the subject's experiences."   The whole project is based on the street harassment and is a serious subject and it effects women world wide.  Her idea of using quotes that are from the victims puts a lot of meaning in the posters. The way she enlarge the word women in the poster is like her main focus is around women, and that women are the main victims to harassment.

I think that the whole movement is really effective. Every aspect of her posters and mainly this specific one show and delivers a really bold and clear message that harassment is a big issue. Her posters seems like warnings, stating a status that as women they've  had enough and putting up posters of themselves as people who are not afraid to speak for themselves and to be able to defend themselves.

BANKSY

Soldiers Painting Peace by Banksy.

In this image there a two soldiers, Painting a peace sing with red paint, while one is holding a gun looking out for cover. The peace in a bright red and it looks really effective on the wall. The stencil of the soldiers is a simple black spray paint.

The image reminds me of war. It reminded me of what I see on the news on Wars in the Middle Eastern, reminds me of the soldiers that are fight for the freedom of their country and innocent people in those country who are suffering because of war.
The image has a lot of meaning on how we humans are so blind to see how our decisions are affecting our own kind.

The image delivers a story about two soldiers seeking for peace or wanting change, The fact that their soldiers represents figures that are meant to destroy and harm, Banksy converts this idea off seeing soldiers as the people who creates harm in to the people who are seeking and are promoting peace.
Over all the big issue that Banksy is trying to deliver on this peace is anti-war. He’s stating a status by delivering it in an art form on his view as a peace maker he show’s that it’s not only those innocent people that want peace but also those who seem to create the fuss.

Political Art

Banksy

I think that political and street art is important to have on our streets. Art on the street is the most effective way to inform public on what is going on in the community. This is because most people don't have the time to read notices, news paper and even watch the news. So I think the best way to catch the people interest in things like political and other things people don't really pay attention too is by showing it through art and placing it somewhere, where its a easy access for people to view while their on the go. Graffiti as part of street art, it is one of the most argue form of art out there. My point of view on graffiti is not negative, I don't stand against it because any form of art is art and  as a artist I would also like people to respect and appreciate my work.  Street artists do their work for a reason. Some of them do not like artists who make so much money in galleries and museums. They choose street art because it is closer to the people. Some artists try to express their political opinion in their work. They often want to protest against big firms and corporations. Others like to do things that are forbidden and hope they don’t get caught.

Manifesto.

Through experiences obstacles are equations, yet to solve

Through critiques, errors are researched and experimental.

Through refection, goals are completely transformed

Through creation, potential is formed

Through being here I am finding my true identity.

Free Writing. John Pule There Will Be Another Time,

John Pule - There Will Be Another Time

This is one of John Pules' work from the exhibition "Another Green World". John uses a limited color pallet, the main colors he uses are green white and black. The mediums he uses are oil, ink and pencil on canvas, its 201x 188 cm. The painting is an abstract painting with images of the green clouds and the vines repetitive in the painting. The other paradox figures in this painting are creatures that are very interesting. They look like predators and very dangerous. They also look like their stuck in another world and are suffering. The painting also has a bit of motifs but I don't think they have a specific meaning. Over all, I think the painting from my point of view conveys another different world a world from a myth that the artist is interested in.

My Influence

My Mother.

From the day I was brought to earth there was always that one person that was always there for me, my mum, my world, my everything . I wouldn't be the person I am today if I didn't have her. I know people would say that of course your mum will always be there, because shes your mum, she has to love you. Yeah! but shes also has her own choices, especially after everything shes been through the past few years.  She still manage to hold us up, all six of us, me my brother and my little sisters. She still manage to have the same strong voice. The voice that has been my guide line from the first time I could understand the meaning of words, and I forever thank God for that. I know most time she speaks in such tone, it drives me crazy, but when I look back to it, the most important things in life she's expressed it in such tone. I think its because she knows  that I'm a hard headed person.  Her advices also made me a strong person, ; "Grace don't give up be strong, Stop being shy it will do you no good, study hard, stay away from boys, and always remember your God!"  Now that I have and idea of what the world and society is about, shes all I depend on to get through, one day I wish to be a intelligent and a strong women like her.
